Title

Shell on the Neck and grandson.

Description

Shell on the Neck, an elderly Crow Indian man, and a young boy, identified as his grandson, stand together outdoors. Shell on the Neck wears a shirt decorated with fringe and ermine pelts, a plaid apron, and a feather headdress. The boy wears a long jacket decorated with fringe and beadwork, necklaces, and a feather headdress. Behind the man and boy is a camp with teepees, horses, and wagons. Note: In April 2016 Grant Bulltail provided information about this photograph: 'Older man in war shirt with scalps hanging from the chest and beaded leggings with vertical stripes (indicate leader of a war party). Wearing light blue beads. The young boy has owl feathers hanging from the side of his necklace (owl feathers indicate participation in dances; probably belongs to the Hot Dance Society) with beaded coat, lots of beads, and a war bonnet.'
