Description

In 1884 Congress created the Missouri River Commission, charged with improving navigation between the mouth of the Missouri at St. Louis to Fort Benton, Montana and on to the headwaters at Three Forks. The survey, under the direction of the Corps of Engineers, travelled upriver by steamboat mapping every bend in the river, the location of islands and sand bars, and vegetation for the over 2,000 miles. This map is sheet #62 of 84 published between 1892-95. Relief shown in hachures.
