Man is William Hollowbreast of Lame Deer, Montana, 19 years old. He volunteered for service in June 1917. He was not a U.S. citizen at the time. He served in Battery B, 122nd F. A. 33rd Division. He was a runner during the Saint-Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne offensives. He remembered delivering messages as “the arms and legs of the men were falling at [his] feet.”
