Oscar Mueller
Oscar Mueller was born in 1887 in Iowa. He earned his law degree and then relocated to Lewistown, Montana, where he met Josephine Cook.
Despite long hours working as an attorney and the time spent investing in his homestead, Oscar made the time to write to Josephine nearly every day.
Josephine Cook
Alice Josephine (Cook) Mueller was born in 1883 in Unity, Montana.
While traveling between her desert claim near Ryegate and her home in White Sulphur Springs she met Oscar Mueller in a boarding house in Lewistown where he was staying when not on his homestead.
Oscar and Josephine spent three years writing to each other. Oscar's letters reveals the transformation (sometimes shy and sometimes bold) from the formality of strangers to the intimacy of love.
